Music for People is a worldwide community dedicated to the belief that all people are inherently musical, creative, and capable of authentic, spontaneous expression. We enable holistic music making for people of all ages and levels of experience.

Our mission is to encourage an accessible and mindful approach to creative expression through improvisation in a safe, joyful, and nonjudgmental atmosphere.

We believe music made in this way is a powerful path to personal and social transformation, artistic freedom, and community building. Music improvisation focusing on play and inclusivity perpetuates acceptance and positive understanding between people.

Participate in two hours of continuous dance/movement improvisation with live music. Leaders Manfred Fischbeck and Brigitta Herrmann guide the group through a series of movement meditations, improvisational structures, and games to inspire spontaneous self-expression and collective creation.

Intercultural Journeys uses the arts to promote peace and greater understanding between people of diverse backgrounds, faiths, and cultures with the aim of catalyzing social change and awareness. Founded in 2002, Intercultural Journeys believes that performances, done for the purpose of bringing people together that might otherwise be in conflict, give us the opportunity to play a small part in contributing to world peace. The Folk Factory

The Folk Factory, based at the Unitarian Church on Stenton Ave and Gorgas Lane in Mt. Airy, is a forum for people interested in music of all kinds and progressive social change. Open Stage / Open Circles are held on most "last Thursdays," and concerts are scheduled throughout the year.

Michael London

Michael London is a Philadelphia Area Singer-Songwriter known as a passionate interpreter of Rumi’s poetry, the great 13th century Sufi poet. He offers us a musical window into the ecstatic poems, which reveal and make tangible our connection with the self, humanity, nature and beyond.

Animus

Animus is a Philadelphia based World Fusion Music & Dance ensemble led by Bill Koutsouros. Their exciting original music melds the exotic musical traditions of the Middle East, Greece, India & Latin America with Jazz, Funk, Rock and beyond. Animus' spectacular belly dancers add an enchanting dimension at selected performances.

The Opa Band

The Opa Band performs the best Traditional Greek Music featuring Philadelphia's own John Koutsouros on Guitar and his son Bill on Bouzouki, Outi and Tsoumbaliki.

Spirit Fire World Music Circle

This circle meets quarterly to celebrate the annual equinoxes and solstices.

SHARON KATZ AND THE PEACE TRAIN

The multicultural South African band of Sharon Katz and the Peace Train helped Nelson Mandela end Apartheid and have continued spreading their message of peace and reconciliation through performances and workshops around the world ever since. The just-released documentary film, When Voices Meet, chronicles the group's 20-year musical journey in support of Mandela's vision and is being screened at film festivals worldwide in 2015.

Sarah Halley of COACHES WITHOUT BORDERS is also the founder and director of Playback for Change, a theater troupe that uses Playback Theatre as a vehicle for social change. Playback Theatre is an internationally practiced form of improvisational theatre that turns real life stories from the audience into a theater performance on the spot.

Peggy Tileston is an educator, therapist, musician and artist who is currently focused on the educator role through teaching music therapy students at Temple University in Philadelphia. She holds degrees from Loyola University in New Orleans and Lesley University in Boston. She is a 'Third Culture Kid' who was born and raised in Asia and Europe, which has contributed to her love of travel and all things global. Also specializes in LAUGHTER YOGA

JOE TAYOUN

Joseph Tayoun, a second generation Lebanese American, is an accomplished Middle Eastern percussionist. He started playing at age eight at his family’s renowned Middle East Restaurant in Philadelphia where live authentic Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Armenian, Greek, and Israeli music and dance were performed nightly for forty years.

JAFFNA WORLD MUSIC ENSEMBLE

Jaffna, comprised of Branavan Ganesan, Raji Malik, Joseph Tayoun & Roger Mgrdichian is a Philadelphia-based world music ensemble which combines instrumentation and influences from the Middle East, India, and anywhere else that inspires them.

PHYLLIS CHAPELL

Phyllis Chapell performs a unique mix of originals, folk, jazz, pop and international music, including songs in up to 13 languages from the U.S., Brazil, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. She performs as a solo artist (vocals/guitar), with her ensemble called Phyllis Chapell & SIORA, and in collaboration with musicians throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.

She has released multiple CDs and videos—and has won awards and accolades for her recordings and original music.
